Weekend in Dubai
The weather is still hot - too hot to sit outside comfortably. I tried to do so today after a vigorous swim. My beverage certainly went down quickly but provided little relief. It was only 42 in the shade but the humidity does take the fun out of the beautiful sunshine. You would not expect to experience such humidity in the desert, but we are only a few KMs from the gulf coast.
This was only an average weekend but I did get some photos of the traffic on Sheikh Zayed Highway.

Today was the start of Ramadan and so the traffic was actually quite light. While I was sweating to death trying to walk across the overpass in the heat and sun, I noticed this sign, which is only unusual if you don't live in Dubai.

You can see a video of the camel racetrack here
The other activity that consumes most of my waking time outside of work is my thesis. After almost two years, i am almost finished and just need to write my thesis. I hope I will finish it by december if I can keep focused.

Bella has taken to jumping up on my desk and keeping me company. She provides a certain sense of comfort and motivation. By the way, if you click on the title of the blog, you will get the local newspaper site. I hope it opens on today's news so you can see what is happening today, the first day of Ramadan.
