Seawall in Port Mouton

Although we are over here in Dubai sweltering in the heat, we are still getting things done in Port Mouton. Over the last four or five years, we have lost over five feet of land to erosion and our neighbours say they have lost 12 feet in as many years. At any rate, the pounding Atlantic storms do take their toll.

Last summer, the neighbours, Dennis and Mary, mentioned that they wanted to put in a seawall and that if we did the same, we could get a better deal. We agreed to go ahead and now it is done. I was surprised at how much work this was. I don’t know quite what I was expecting but this wall is an impressive piece of work.

Here you can see the inside of the seawall. I didn’t think that there would be an actual wall. I thought there would be a gradual slope to the water with a bunch of rocks. This is a great development and I can’t wait to put a deck behind the wall.

Here is the water side view of the wall. I would guess that this wall will withstand a few winter storms and keep our ‘resort’ from disappearing into the ocean. The only problem with this is now we have to wait a long time before we will be back to actually see it.
