Turning 50

Well, along with moving from Dubai and completing my PhD, I also turned fifty this year. Annette planned an amazing surprise party for me and managed to keep me completely in the dark.

I had no idea that she was planning anything. Then, just before noon, the phone rang. We were summoned to go over to the docks to see a whale. So, into the car we jumped and off we went. Once there, everybody jumped out, surprised me, and onto the boat!

Heading to Sea

We went by lobster boat for a 3 hour cruise around Port Mouton Bay. Its quite amazing what you see on the sea out in the bay.

Strange islands

Deserted Beaches

Landing spots for island hopping

Great conversations

There is a lot of wildlife out there.

Cormorants, whose poo …

… is so lethal it kills the trees

We also came across reefs and lone rocks sticking up where boats crash and seals sun.

Lone rocks

Boats awashed

Seals sunning

AS we cruised around Port Mouton Bay, there were some great opportunities to get group photos, like these:

Friends and family

Hanging with one of the boys

More friends and family

The whole crowd

We were also able to look back at our bit of land and see them from a new perspective.

Some of the neighbours – Spectacle Island Lighthouse

Some of the neighbours – Bells Point

Some of the neighbours – Nice house!

We then returned to the cottage for a barbeque …

A big BBQ

… and more surprises.

What do you get the man who has everything?
