Barbados Bound

In August, Ross University announced that it would relocate to the island of Barbados. While I had only been in Dominica for three weeks, and Annette had only been there for three days, we had become quite smitten with the place. On the other hand, Barbados offers a few luxuries that Dominica could not, such as direct flights to Canada and the US, and a bit more selection in the grocery stores.

So, in October, we bustled on down to the island to scout a new home. As you may know, we were almost immediately successful. Actually, our place was the the first we saw, but we did look at a few others just to make sure.

Celebrating the choice of home

Once we had settled on a new house, we ventured forth to check out some restaurants and good local food.

Once we had eaten well, we went to explore some of the amazing beachs and coastline. We started from Welches Beach on the South Coast and went counter clockwise around the island.

North Coast – not really a beach I suppose …

Finally, the most amazing West Coast – just down the hill from our new house

We visited some private gardens to view the local flora …

Amazing palm trees – who doesn’t love palm trees?

… and the local fauna.

Pesky monkeys – not good for farmers

Barbados is of course famous for its rum production. As you drive through the interior of the island, there are abundant sugar cane fields, and warehouses full of rum casks aging and maturing.

There are also ample remnants of its past including this wind mill – very Dutch – and …

No beach!
