Any Port (Mouton) in a storm

Our trip home this time around was rather fraught with difficulty and additional preparations due to Covid. In order to prepare for the trip, I had to make sure I was suitably attired.

Hat – Check! Glasses – Check!

We had recently received a care package from our friend Sandy in New York. With her covid PPE gear and safety equipment including a solar powered light …

… we were prepared for the coming ordeal. Traveling to Nova Scotia from Barbados required two flights connecting in Toronto before arriving in Halifax shortly after midnight. After a restful snooze at the Alt Hotel, and while maintaining strict social distance, we jumped in a friend’s car for the two-hour drive to Port Mouton and our two-week quarantine.

Home Sweet Home

As you may already know, Nova Scotia in mid-September is just lovely. The leaves are still full on the trees, the flies are gone and the sun shines brightly to give amazing sunsets.

Sun getting close to setting

Our ocean view faces east so we do not get the final rays of sun over there, but we do get some amazing afternoons with the sun beaming through the trees. During our quarantine, we were able to build our lovely firepit area on the ocean.

Late afternoon on the coast

… allows us to see all kinds of activity. At that time of year, the fishermen are out catching herring. The herring fleet numbers more than 80 ships. They go out in the afternoon in order to fish at night with giant lights.

With all of this wonderful weather, we spent a considerable amount of time on our ocean front deck.

We didn’t stop when the sun went down either. Since we were there for more than a month, we were treated to a full moon on a clear night.

During the day however, we also made good use of our time to explore some the local area …

Look closely

As we always do every time we come home, we spent time visiting a few family and friends. As you can see, lakes figure prominently in our lifestyle.

As with all good things, we eventually had to return home to Barbados. A few days before we left for Barbados, Canada was put on their high risk list and we had to scramble to get Covid tests before boarding our flight for Bridgetown. To compound that effort, we also had to quarantine in Barbados for a few days while waiting for a second test.

In Quarantine – that is us!

Quarantine is not always bad!
