To get there, we thought we would try the Lahave River cable ferry for the first time.
From the ferry, it is a relatively short 13 minute drive to Hirtle’s Beach and the parking lot behind the boardwalk.
Down on the beach, we took a hard right and we were off toward Gaff Point.
Much of the beach is small beach rock. When the waves catch the rocks and roll them back towards the water, the rocks make the most marvelous rumbling crackle.
As we made our way along the beach over the rock, we stopped for a selfie. These are great to track your aging process!
We also had a chance to get a few shots of some of the properties that overlook the beach.
Once we arrived at the end of the beach, the trail started with a small incline and a lovely walk along the coastline out to Gaff Point.
Given our south shore biome, there is a wide diversity of plant life along the trail.
Once we rounded the point itself …
… the trail disappeared into the woods and we were reduced to wandering through the spruce and fir. Luckily we were ahead of the fly season.
After we returned to the car and drove around the area for a look-see, we then retired to the Rose Bay General Store for a lovely meal and a great selection of Portuguese wine.
