Winter in Abu Dhabi is a pleasant experience. It is even more pleasant when you get to enjoy some international guests and local. The guests give you a great reason to poke around and visit places that you might not otherwise go to regularly.

Of course, I never need an excuse to go to the Dubai Marina. I never tire of walking the beach and checking out the skyline. At any rate, I did just want to make a short post to track some of the excellent adventures we have had over these couple months.

During the alignment of the planets, which only happens now and then a crowd of us went out to an area called the Milky Way, which is the darkest area of the UAE.

As we, including Alex, me, Kim, Leah and Annette, settled in, …

… we had a good look around and went for a bit of a slippery walk in the dunes …
… before getting the fire going.
I am always suprised at what you can find out in the desert including The Desert Gerbil.

…off we went. These safaris often have dozens of vehicles trailing each other through the dunes. They always stop somewhere for photo opportunities. This time, we had a driver who was quite an artiste with our cameras.

This trip took us through a desert reserve where we were lucky to see what I believe is an oryx.

We also went to an exciting show at the Dubai Opera House. Going to the show was exciting, but just walking to the Opera House is almost as exciting!

The Dubai Opera House is in the Dubai Mall Complex which is also home to the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.

We have in fact been here many times over the years, and if you search this site, you will find many photos of the Burj. However, there is always room for one more photo.
They put on some amazing light shows at the Burj as well. In between the Dubai Fountain…

… and other activities, they project amazing videos and patterns onto the Burj.

We are very much enjoying our local area. We get out pretty much everyday for a solid and vigorous walk through the canals and walkways of Al Raha, our little community in Abu Dhabi.

Our neighbourhood is built around several canals. All along he canals, there are some very cool buildings including the Coin Building, named because, well, it looks like a coin!

Usually, the water is quite clean partly because of the tide. We do get a few creatures floating around in the canals.

Due to our proximity to Yas Island, we are often treated to firworks diplays, which we can see from our balcony.

Finally, I thought I would share a few random shots of days out and about. We have been frequently a local pub called the Crafty Fox. I am not so sure about the name, but the view, along with the selection of beverages and food, is amazing.

You also get an amazing sunset.

We also made another visit to see the flamingos. I have several photos and videos of them throughout the blog, but this time i managed to capture two flying in for a landing. I thought I would share …
