January 2026 marks the start of our repatriated residence in Port Mouton. This is a big deal in our lives, as you well may imagine. We had been planning carefully for our return and were well aware, and excited, for the wintry reception we received. Although there was no snow when we actually arrived in mid-January, within a few days we received the first of several snow falls.

Being outdoor enthusiasts, we quickly cleared the snow …

… and poured a glass.

We always enjoy being outdoors, and rarely let the weather interfere with our activities. We may need to adjust our activities to suit the climate we are in.

Being outside can be quite exhilarating. The snow gives a blanket covering of whiteness and cleanliness.

As you can see in this video, the white snow reflects the sun, creating a vivid atmosphere. We do love to be outside in the crunchy air, and with the crunchy snow. As you walk along, you can hear a solid crunch from the snow.

One problem with snow is that although it is beautiful, it is heavy so you need to clear it off your roof …

… and can be quite cold! You need a lot of wood to heat your house.

As you might recall, we like to do house / pet sitting in order to stay in different places and explore the local areas. We did two sits in Nova Scotia to establsh some references and to enjoy different parts of the province.

This sit was not so far away. They had an amazing view of a lake, which was just a few feet from their front deck. Of course, it was totally frozen over.

We also did a sit in Dartmouth. This one was right on the harbour, and had a lovely view of Halifax.

We always have a few trees fall down in storms, but this one was quite interesting in that it was eaten out in the middle by ants.
