Watch the following video from Ted.com. While the topic is not very glamourous, the speaker is very compelling. In amongst his 18 minutes or so of talking, he makes two observations that perhaps are obvious, but here are supported by very strong evidence.
He talks about the differences between India and China, comparing the two and discussing why one country has seen stellar economic development and the other has not. His answer is that China has far more Human Capital.
Observation 1 (10:30 in the video): The difference?in the literacy rate between India and China in the 1990s was enormous - approximately 77% in China compared to 48% in India.
This does not consider the difference in the definition of literacy in the two countries - to be literate in China is far more difficult than in India
Observation 2: Women in China are far more educated (68%) than women in India (33%). Women in China are far more equal to men that they are in India.?
Yet another strong?argument for Education...?
