Septic field

We are in the middle of installing a septic field. Have you ever really looked at how big a septic field is? They take a lot of space, and in our case required more than 30 trees to be cut down. Then, they bring in about 20 truckloads of fill, then another 20 of sand, and then put in a long pipe into which the actual septic water goes, before filtering through the field.

Then, they cover the whole thing in topsoil and grass seed.

Once that was in, they then put in the tanks and pipes from the cottage to the field.

Doug and Dave, his helper, wait for one of the tanks to be lowered into place.

Doug and his son, Johnnie, level the bottom half of the main tank and prepare for the top half to be lowered on.

Level it up

Once the two halves are together, the pipes leading into the tank, and out of it, are sealed with tar and everything is readied for burial.
